Polybutylene and Aliso Viejo's housing
The 1980–1999 share here is 71%, above the California figure of 25%. That ranks 1st highest of the 151 California cities we profile. Not every home from those years has polybutylene, but enough do that buyers, inspectors and insurers in Aliso Viejo ask about it.
Look for gray (sometimes blue or black) flexible pipe stamped PB2110 at the water heater, under sinks or at the main shutoff. Homes of the same era in nearby Irvine, Mission Viejo, Lake Forest raise the same question.
In California: Water character changes across the state: Southern California and the Central Valley are generally hard, while much of the Bay Area and Northern California is softer.
