Polybutylene and Naperville's housing
The 1980–1999 share here is 51%, above the Illinois figure of 20%. That ranks 2nd highest of the 57 Illinois cities we profile. Not every home from those years has polybutylene, but enough do that buyers, inspectors and insurers in Naperville ask about it.
Look for gray (sometimes blue or black) flexible pipe stamped PB2110 at the water heater, under sinks or at the main shutoff. Homes of the same era in nearby Aurora, Plainfield, Bolingbrook raise the same question.
In Illinois: Basements and heavy spring rain make sump pumps, backup pumps and overhead sewers common.
Permits
Full replacement is a repipe and normally needs a permit.
